About श्री बजरंग बाण (Shri Bajrang Baan)
श्री बजरंग बाण holds a uniquely powerful place among all prayers dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Unlike the gentle, flowing rhythm of the Hanuman Chalisa, the Bajrang Baan is a direct and fervent appeal — recited especially in times of fear, crisis, suffering, or when facing powerful obstacles. It is believed to invoke Hanuman Ji’s swift, unstoppable intervention in the devotee’s life.
Meaning of the Name
The word Baan signifies an arrow, while Bajrang refers to Hanuman, whose body is as powerful as a thunderbolt (Vajra). The prayer is symbolically compared to an arrow that is meant to drive out obstacles, fear and darkness from one’s life.
Composer & Origin
बजरंग बाण एक अत्यंत शक्तिशाली स्तुति है जिसे गोस्वामी तुलसीदास जी ने रचा था। It is composed in the classical Awadhi style — the same language as the Ramcharitmanas and Hanuman Chalisa — making it part of the same great devotional literary tradition of the 16th century Bhakti movement.
Famous Singers
The most celebrated rendition of Bajrang Baan is by Hariharan from the T-Series Bhakti Sagar label, widely available on YouTube. Other popular versions include those by Gulshan Kumar, Anuradha Paudwal and Suresh Wadkar.
Deity
Lord Hanuman — referred to as Bajrangbali throughout this text. Within Hinduism, Lord Hanuman is revered as the embodiment of unshakable devotion, bravery and selfless service. The Bajrang Baan invokes his most fierce and protective form — the cosmic warrior who destroys all evil.
Bajrang Baan vs Hanuman Chalisa — Key Difference
The Bajrang Baan is more of a battle cry for Hanuman’s intervention than the Hanuman Chalisa, which is seen as a soft and devotional poem. When a devotee is in dire need of instant divine intervention, the Bajrang Baan is recited. The Chalisa is for daily devotion; the Bajrang Baan is for moments of urgent crisis and protection.
Mantric Power
The Bajrang Baan is rich with mantric syllables — ॐ हनु हनु हनु, ॐ ह्नीं ह्नीं, ॐ हं हं — which carry deep vibrational energy believed to dispel negativity, evil, illness and misfortune. These beej (seed) mantras are embedded throughout the text, giving it the quality of a kavach (divine armour) as much as a stuti.
Benefits of Reciting Bajrang Baan
– शत्रुओं और विरोधियों से मुक्ति — Liberation from enemies and opponents
– आत्मविश्वास और साहस में वृद्धि — Increase in self-confidence and courage
– Removes fear, evil spirits, black magic and negative energy
– यह बजरंग बाण जो जापै, ताते भूत-प्रेत सब कांपै — Whoever recites the Bajrang Baan, all evil spirits tremble before them
– Provides swift divine protection in times of crisis
– Removes disease, misfortune and mental distress
– Fulfils sincere prayers when recited with complete faith
Important Rules (Niyam) for Bajrang Baan Path
The Bajrang Baan is a highly potent text and should be recited with discipline:
– It should be recited with pure devotion, complete faith and a spirit of surrender
– It is strongly advised not to begin and then abandon the recitation midway — it must be completed once started
– Recite only when facing genuine difficulty — not as a casual daily recitation like the Chalisa
– Maintain celibacy and purity of thought during the recitation period
– Do not recite with impure intent or to harm others
Correct Path Vidhi (Method of Recitation)
1. Set up an image or idol of Hanuman Ji and Lord Ram at a clean place
2. Light a diya with jasmine oil (chameli ka tel)
3. Offer flowers, sindoor and akshat
4. Offer besan ke laddoo, jaggery, chana or chironji as prasad
5. Sit facing east on a clean asan
6. Recite the Bajrang Baan with full devotion and faith
When to Recite
– When facing serious obstacles, enemies or danger
– During illness or when seeking protection from negative forces
– On Tuesday and Saturday evenings
– When feeling fear, anxiety or spiritual disturbance
– During Hanuman Jayanti and Ram Navami
– After completing the Hanuman Chalisa for added protection
